Dr. Blankenship joined the faculty of Meridian in fall, 2018. She holds a B.S. in Applied Sociology, an M.A. in History, (both from Texas State University) and a Ph.D. in Social Studies Education from the University of Texas, Austin. Prior to joining the Meridian faculty, Dr. Blankenship was also an I.B. Examiner in both history and psychology. She holds certifications in Secondary Social Studies, Secondary English Language Arts, and an ESL endorsement. After receiving her Ph.D. she took a position with Rhode Island College where she was a tenured Associate Professor in the departments of Educational Studies and History. As a teacher, Dr. Blankenship is strong proponent of teaching historical thinking skills using inquiry based methods, technology integration, and place-based education. Equally important is the building of relationships with each of her students and providing them with a space and place for their voices to be heard. After six winters in Rhode Island, she is happy to be back in Texas where blizzards rarely occur. She lives in South Austin with her husband of 30 years, and a grumpy, old cat. She is thrilled to be joining the faculty at Meridian!
