About 2020 Spring Tennis

Through our continued partnership with Cimarron Hills, Spring 2020 Tennis will consist of three competitive teams: Middle School, Boys Varsity and Girls Varsity. There will be tryouts to form this season's teams. Cuts are possible.

The Spring Tennis season includes the TCSAAL State Tennis Tournament. Entries in the tournament are limited, and not all tennis players who makes the Middle School team or the Varsity teams will be able to participate in the State Tournament. The State Tennis Team will be determined by challenge matches during practices in the weeks leading up to State.

Developmental Tennis will not be offered this season. Students who do not make a Spring Tennis team or who are interested in learning the sport of tennis are welcome to contact the Tennis coaches to inquire about private lessons.

Meridian will offer three teams for Spring 2020 Tennis.

  • Varsity Tryouts will be Friday, 1/17 from 6:30-7:30pm at Cimarron Hills.

8th grade students could be considered to play up to the Varsity level.

Meridian Tennis coaches will work together to determine which players make the team(s). To help you prepare for Spring Tennis Tryouts, please review this rubric  and see the Lines on a Tennis Court and Spaces on a Tennis Court documents.

Tryout results will be posted online  on this webpage by 10am Tuesday, 1/21. Results will be posted by tryout number, so tennis players should make a note of their tryout number. If offered a spot on a team, in order to accept it, both the tennis player and at least one parent must attend the Mandatory Parent/Athlete Meeting on Tuesday, 1/21 from 5:45-6:45pm in the Mays Cafe and pay the student athlete's participation fee at that time.

Uniform & Equipment Needs
Student athletes participating in Spring Tennis will receive one loaner Meridian Tennis jersey, which is to be worn to all matches. Replacements for damaged or lost uniform jerseys must be purchased for $45 each, and student athletes cannot compete unless they are wearing the approved uniform jersey.

Tennis players must provide their own black or khaki tennis bottoms to complete their match uniform.

Tennis players must also provide their own tennis shoes and racket.

For practices, Spring Tennis players will be provided with a Meridian Athletics spirit wear T-shirt which they can wear to practices with athletic bottoms. Or, Spring Tennis players can wear other Meridian spirit wear and athletic bottoms to practices. Additionally,  tennis players should wear tennis shoes and bring their rackets to all practices

Transportarion to Practices & Matches
All practices and matches are held off-campus. Practices are at Cimarron Hills Tennis Center, and many of the matches will be there, too. Some matches are at area schools. Meridian does not provide transportation for any Athletics activities, including Tennis practices and matches. Meridian and its coaches cannot make arrangements or suggestions about transportation either. However, the parents of those registered are provided with a list of parent emails for all those who are participating in this sport, this season. Parents are welcome to use that list to make transportation arrangements on their own. (The parent contacts are not to be used for solicitation purposes.) Additionally, parents and players are encouraged to join the TeamApp team and use that tool to build the Spring Tennis community and arrange for carpooling.

Lettering
Lettering will be available to the Varsity team only. Varsity players must meet all other requirements to letter. Lettering requirements will be available in January. The lettering list will be posted by May 5th, 2020 for all students who lettered in their sport and extracurriculars during the 2019-2020 school year.
