Homework and Practice

There are no "official" homework assignments in Spanish.

-   Ask your child to teach you what he/she learned in class each week. This will provide them extra practice opportunities outside of class. This will help your child to participate with more confidence during lessons.
-   Encourage your child to tell you about Spanish classes (new, words, songs, dances).
-   Occasionally, we will send home small activities they can do with you, which will help them to better remember vocabulary in class.
-   Though it is not required, if you do not already have a Spanish Picture Dictionary, it can be helpful to have one at home for reference or to practice with your child.
-   Encourage your child to practice the Spanish words and phrases learned in school.
-   Please let us know of any Spanish resources or community events that may help support our learning at Meridian School
For additional practice it is recommended that students practice the vocabulary, phrases, and songs presented in class outside of the classroom. In addition, students should try to incorporate the vocabulary and phrases they are learning into their daily conversations and interaction with family and friends. For example say "gracias" instead of "thank you" or "Buenas tardes" instead of "Good afternoon." When counting, count in Spanish to practice your numbers. Practice spelling words, by spelling them in Spanish as well as English. "Read" license plates using the Spanish alphabet & numbers.

Reading is a great way to improve and practice your Spanish language skills.
1. In the Meridian School Library we have a section of books written in languages other than English, which include books in Spanish. There are books on a variety of topics, genres, and levels. They also have bilingual books. These books are available for checkout just like any other book in the library. Similar sections also exist in the local public library.
