We are excited to share information for the 2018-2019 swimming season, which will begin in August.

About Meridian Swimming

Meridian is thrilled to announce both a High School and a Middle School swimming opportunity for the 2018-2019 season!

High School Swim Team (Competitive) - For 8th-12th grade experienced swimmers. Tryouts required.

The High School Swim Team is designed to provide training and competitive opportunities for experienced swimmers. The High School Swim Team will train three times a week in an area pool. Additionally, swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in 4-5 meets, with the final competition of the season being the TAPPS District Meet in January 2019. Although Meridian has experienced four successful years of high school swimming, the program is continuing to grow and welcomes experienced high school swimmers. All eligibility requirements must be maintained (academic, financial, physical and character good standing).

Tryouts - Tryouts are required to assess skill-level as this is a competitive sport with a minimum skill-level required to participate. Tryouts occurred in February 2018. If you missed tryouts, please email Meridian-athletics@mwschool.org.

Minimum Skill Requirements - Swimmers should be able to:

  • 2000 total yards of swimming (not continuously, but on intervals)
  • All four strokes legally
  • Legal turns and finishes
  • A 500 freestyle continuously
  • Two 100 IMs continuously

Parent ResponsibilitiesParticipation on the swim team includes an expectation that parents will commit to serving as a volunteer throughout the season. Parents are needed to serve in many roles: lane timers, tent set up, snack coordinator, social coordinator, photographer, etc.

Middle School Developmental Swimming - For student athletes who are experienced swimmers and aspire to be on the Meridian High School Swim Team once eligible. Minimum Skills Assessment required.

The Middle School Developmental Group is designed to provide training for experienced swimmers who hope to compete on the Meridian High School Swim Team once in 9th grade. There are no competitive opportunities outside of those intrasquad competitions that could be included in practices. The Middle School Developmental Group will train one time a week in an area pool. All eligibility requirements, except academic eligibility, must be maintained (financial, physical and character good standing).

Skills Assessment - The first ten who registered will be required to attend a skills assessment.

Participants Limited to 10 - Space will be limited for the Middle School Developmental Group. The first ten who registered will be offered the spots pending a skills assessment. Additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist and will be offered spots as they become available and assuming they meet eligibility requirements and pass the skills assessment.

Minimum Skill Requirements - Swimmers should be able to:

  • 1500 total yards of swimming (not continuously, but on intervals)
  • Legal strokes (all four), turns, and finishes

Meridian will offer two groups for 2018-19 Swimming.
