Debbie Shepherd joined Meridian in August 2011 as a reading and dyslexia specialist and a member of the school's first faculty. Debbie received her bachelors degree from Trinity University in elementary education, special education and education for the hearing impaired.  She received her masters in education from Texas State University. She is certified in elementary and ESL education, and has been trained as a master reading teacher, literacy coach and dyslexia specialist. Debbie has taught several grade levels and worked as a literacy coach in Alamo Heights ISD, Pflugerville ISD, and at NYOS Charter School. She has also co-taught the Innovative Schools class at Southwestern University and has contributed to a chapter in The Routledge International Handbook of Innovative Education. Debbie became involved as a Founder when Meridian was originally being discussed because of her passion for innovative education. The IB program, with its emphasis on inquiry, action, reflection, and authentic, integrated learning is a perfect match for her educational beliefs and philosophies. Debbie has completed Category 1 and advanced training in IB-PYP.
