Charles Ryder joined the Meridian community in 2013 as Principal of the Secondary School, and when separate principal positions for Middle and High School were created in 2018 became Principal of the High School. Originally from Austin, Texas, Mr. Ryder holds a degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and began his educational career in 1995 as a History teacher at Westview Middle School in Pflugerville ISD. In 1999 he took a position with North Hills Preparatory in Irving, Texas (DFW metroplex), where over the years he taught Texas History (7th), English Language Arts (8th), World Geography (9th), AP European History (10th), AP & IB MYP World History (10th), AP US History (11th), Economics (12th), and IB DP History Higher Level (11th-12th). Mr. Ryder also served as the Social Studies Department Chair, IB Diploma Program Coordinator, and eventually Dean of Instruction for North Hills Preparatory. He has also worked with the College Board / Educational Testing Service as a Reader for AP European History, and with the International Baccalaureate as an Examiner for IB History of the Americas and Extended Essay and as an IB Educator workshop leader and site visitor.
