Bluebonnet Challenge 2024-2025 (3rd-6th)

The library is excited to offer a Bluebonnet Book Challenge for students who will be in 3rd through 6th grades during the 2024-2025 school year. Students read the number of assigned books and create reader's responses to show their understanding of the books.

The Bluebonnet Book list includes twenty books written mostly on a 3rd through 5th grade reading level that comprise a variety of genres, including biographies, realistic fiction, mysteries, and fantasy. This year, the challenge varies by grade level. Suggestions for each grade level are based on the reading level and content of the books, but students are welcome to choose the books that interest them most.  

 3rd Graders - 8 books of your choice 
 4th Graders - 12 books of your choice 
 5th Graders - 16 books of your choice 
 6th Graders - 20 books 

Students can get the books from any source (print, e-book, audiobook). Parents are permitted to read the books aloud with their students as well.  

Reader's Response

 

Once students have read a book, they will choose how they want to respond to their reading, Choices include creating a story map, analyzing character traits, or creating a book review that shows your knowledge of the story. These response choices will be submitted through Toddle for students entering 3rd-5th grade and through Google Classroom for students entering 6th. Students can view the Toddle Class for their grade level using their Meridian student account. If you need help accessing Toddle from home, please contact Mrs. Chapman ([email protected]).

Incentives

Fall Book Fair Prizes

Students who complete their entire grade level challenge by the first week of December 2024 can earn a gift certificate to be spent at the Fall Book Fair.

 

Bluebonnet Celebration and Voting

In January 2025, all 3rd-5th grade students who have participated in reading at least five Bluebonnet books will be eligible to vote in the statewide vote. The votes of Meridian students are combined with votes of students from around the state of Texas to determine the favorite book of the year. 

 

In addition, students who have gone beyond the minimum of five books to meet their grade level's challenge will be invited to the library for a special celebration.
