Blythe León

Ms. León joined the Meridian family in the fall of 2016 when her oldest children began kindergarten. Over the years her involvement as a volunteer, daily substitute, and long-term sub has allowed her to get to know many Meridian students across grades and classes. She feels honored and grateful for the privilege of serving among the Lion community in her current role as a special education instructional aide.

Blythe graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish linguistics (Go Dawgs!).  Language acquisition has been one of her lifelong pursuits, including formal and ‘barefoot’ language learning from Ecuador to Spain, France to South Africa, and a few other stops in between. While studying Arabic in Tunisia she unwittingly found herself on the other side of the classroom.  This first unexpected opportunity to teach college English marked the beginning of her career in education.  She went on to earn a  Master’s degree in TESOL from Seattle Pacific University as well as her Texas teaching credentials and has since taught language in a wide range of scenarios.

Language exploration has powerfully impacted Ms. León’s life and she believes this can be true for anyone–no matter the learner, target language, strategy, location, or time spent.  She strives to share that life-changing perspective and the richness of the world with her students; there is so much to discover and language is often the key that unlocks those new experiences.

Blythe loves to travel back ‘home’ to Seattle, St. Louis, and Ecuador as often as possible.  When she’s not involved in her kids’ activities, you might find her reading, baking, heading to pilates, or watching the Premier League with her South American husband.
