Tryouts are closed to parents and spectators. 

 

Volleyball Candidates Must:

  • Register for 2024 Competitive Volleyball
  • Be physically eligible (have a valid physical form on file. Learn more).
  • Be financially eligible (not have any past due invoices with the school).
  • Attend Tryouts

 

 

Tryout Schedule

Middle School Girls

Two Middle School Girls teams will be formed based on the result of a two-part tryouts: the Skills Assessment and the Team Tryouts. All candidates must attend the Skills Assessment on  Wednesday, August 7 after school.. Then, some candidates will be cut based on their Skills Assessment, and the others will be called back to the Team Tryouts on Thursday, 8/8 after school.

Wednesday, August 7 - MS Girls Skills Assessment

1:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.  –  MS Girls check-in in the Mays Lobby

2:00  p.m. - 4:00 p.m. – MS Girls Tryouts: Skills Assessment

9:30 p.m. – MS Girls Callbacks posted by tryout number on this Volleyball Tryouts webpage. Candidates whose tryout number is not posted have been cut and are not being called back for the MS Girls Team Tryouts on Thursday, 8/8.

 

Thursday, August 8 - MS Girls Team Tryouts (by callback only)

4:15 p.m. -  4:30 p.m. – MS Girls Callbacks check-in. (For all those who are called back based on their Skills Assessment Tryouts on 8/7. Students who were not called back were cut.)

4:30 p.m.  - 6:00 p.m. –  MS Girls Tryouts: Team Tryouts (by callback only)

9:30  p.m. – MS Girls Teams announced by tryout number posted on this webpage..

 

High School Girls

Both the Varsity Girls and JV Girls teams will be formed based on the results of High School Girls Volleyball Tryouts on Wednesday, 8/7.

4:15 - 4:30 p.m. – HS Girls check-in

4:30 - 6:30 p.m. – HS Girls Tryouts: Skills Assessment & Team Assessments 

9:30  p.m. -  HS Girls Teams announced by tryout number posted on this webpage.

 

Boys Varsity

The Boys Varsity team will be formed based on the results of tryouts on Thursday, 8/8.

5:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.  – Boys Varsity tryouts  check-in

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  – Boys Varsity  tryouts

9:30  p.m. -  Boys Varsity team announced by tryout number posted on this webpage.

 

Tryout Attire

Students should wear athletic attire and volleyball shoes or athletic shoes.  Shirts should cover the torso (no midriff or cutoffs). Volleyball knee pads are strongly recommended. Students should bring a full bottle of water. No jewelry can be worn except stud earrings.

 

Tryout Results

  • Girls High School Volleyball players will learn if they made a team and which one by 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday 8/7.
  • Middle School Girls -
    • Will learn if they made callbacks for the team tryouts by 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday 8/7. 
    • Will learn if they made a team and which one by 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 8/8.
  • Boys Volleyball players will learn if they made the Boys Varsity team by 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 8/8.

 

Please check this webpage, where results will be posted by tryout number during that time. To secure their spot on the team, their participation fee must be paid via MySchoolBucks invoice or by check by noon on Tuesday, 8/12. (Invoices will be sent on Friday, 8/9.)

 

Volleyball is extremely competitive at Meridian. Please expect cuts. 

 

 

Important Notes About Volleyball Tryouts

Club Volleyball Tryouts Conflict

Student athletes who are registered to try out for 2024 Meridian Volleyball but have club volleyball tryouts during the scheduled Meridian Volleyball Tryouts should email [email protected] as soon as the conflict is detected and no later than 7/15/24. No other schedule conflicts should be reported as the 2024 Meridian Volleyball Tryout Schedule will have been published since 4/25/24, which is more than 3 months before tryouts.

 

Decided not to try out?

If you registered to try out and you decide not to try out, please email [email protected] as soon as possible. We are planning teams and everything that entails (coaches, practices, games, uniforms, etc.) according to registration information.

 

Refunding Volleyball Registration Fee:

Student athletes who try out and do not make any team will be refunded the Volleyball Registration Fee. If a student athlete does not try out, the registration fee is non-refundable.

 

Number of Participants/Team:

If a minimum number of qualified student athletes are not available to form a team, that team will not form. Coaches are not required to fill their teams with a maximum number of participants.

 

Playing Up:

If the minimum number of student athletes or the skills needed to form the Girls Varsity team cannot be met by high school girls registered for that sport, the Girls Varsity coach will consider inviting registered 8th grader(s) to "play up." In that case, the 8th student athlete and their parents/guardians should review the schedule and requirements to participate on that team before making the decision. Declining the offer to play up does not affect the student athlete's chances of making a Middle School team. However, please note that the decision will need to be made quickly as all High School teams must be formed before Middle Teams can be formed, and cuts in Middle School are expected.

 

Boys Varsity is open to 8th-12th grade students.
