BE SWEET TO OTHERS DAY

Valentines Day is celebrated a bit differently at Meridian. Classroom teachers will instruct students on how they can share valentine cards with their friends. However,  this is not one of the three allowed Texas "non-healthy food" days (which are done in October, December and May at our socials/parties), so no candy exchange will be allowed. The focus of this day will be on being a valentine to others who need us and our support. This is something that we did last year and it was an amazing experience. Having taken place just before our IB evaluation, our evaluators themselves took pictures of the work the students did and the idea has spread in the IB community.

2018 Projects:

K – Students made cards to deliver to a local nursing home. They
learned a song in music and students/parents are invited to deliver
the cards and sing for the residents.

1 – Students have collected books, each with a bookmark from a
student to deliver to STARRY.

2 – After studying expression through artistic media, several “kits”
of different activities will be taken to Dell Children’s with cards
from students.

3 – Students will be making Operation Gratitude paracord bracelets
for soldiers. Current and former members of the military will be on
hand to talk with students.

4 – WilCo Animal Shelter will be speaking with students followed
by the making of toys for the cats and dogs. A supply drive has
been taking place and will be delivered.

5 – Recreating last year’s successful project, students, staff and
organization members from Drops of Grace will be on hand to walk
to raise money for water resources. The walk on the playground
will be from 9:30 – 11:30.
