Students will explore and preview a wide variety of instruments to help decide if they want to join choir, band, or orchestra class for their 6th grade music course. During this session, students will work with music teachers who guide them through each option, demonstrate proper technique, and help them discover which instrument feels most comfortable. The purpose of this instrument trial is to ensure that every student begins their music class with confidence, enthusiasm, and the right instrument for their middle school experience. Students not interested in either of these three options can choose the general music course option.

Choir introduces fundamental vocal/music skills (tone, sight-reading, theory), building musicianship through varied music styles, performance etiquette, and teamwork, preparing students for advanced ensembles via concerts and events and developing responsibility, discipline, and appreciation for music's cultural role.

Band is the foundational instrumental music program where students learn basic music literacy, instrument care, and performance skills on woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments, focusing on fundamental techniques, note reading, rhythm, and playing in small groups, building toward larger ensemble experiences.

Orchestra is an exciting entry point for students to learn string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass), develop musicality, collaborate, and perform, focusing on foundational skills, cultural appreciation, and teamwork in a supportive environment, building towards more complex ensembles

General music focuses on building music literacy through singing, playing instruments (percussion/keyboard), reading/writing notation, creating music, and exploring diverse cultures/history.

Music and Arts and Better Than New will be on-site for instrument rentals and purchases.
