For Students/Families in Grades 5-11
It's time to choose courses for next school year! Below, you’ll find the information you need for the following:
- Information Nights for transition years (rising 6th, rising 9th, and rising IB Diploma Program)
- Course Selection and Counselor information for each grade level.
- Helpful links to help you navigate the process.
Family Information Nights
Join us for in-person talks where you meet administration and learn more about what's in store for you and your student as they continue their Meridian journey! Students are welcome to attend these events with their parent/guardian. These are for our currently-enrolled students.
- These take place in the Mays Cafe (middle school).
- Park in the student parking lot (on the south side of the middle school building) and enter the Mays Cafe through the Mays Cafeteria patio doors.
6th Grade Information Night
- For Current 5th grade families
- Tuesday, January 13, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
- Meet the MYP team and learn what to expect in middle school!
- Learn about accelerated math pathways at Meridian.
9th Grade Information Night
- For Current 8th grade families
- Thursday, January 15, from 6 p.m. -7 p.m.
- Come learn what to expect in high school and the IB Diploma Program.
- We highly recommend this session so that you have the information you need to choose the right high school for your student.
IB Diploma Program Information Night
- For Current 10th grade families - current 8th and 9th grade families are welcome also!
- Tuesday, January 27, from 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
- Meet the DP team and learn all about the IB Diploma program at Meridian.
- All rising 11th grade families are strongly encouraged to attend! There is a lot to know about course selection in the 11th-12th grade IB Diploma Program!
Course Selection Information
Class of 2033 (current 5th graders)
Our rising 6th graders will have a scripted schedule. Students choose two courses:
- Foreign language: French or Spanish
- Music course: Beginning Band, Beginning Orchestra, Beginning Choir, or General Music. Learn more about instruments and try them out at our Instrument Discovery Day on Monday, January 5, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Also, make plans to attend the 6th Grade Information Night on January 13 (see section above), where you’ll have a chance to learn more about courses and what to expect. You can preview the 6th Grade Course Choice Sheet, which will be due January 26. After the Information Night, if you still have questions, please reach out to Ms. Zook.
Class of 2032 (current 6th graders)
Our rising 7th graders have a scripted schedule for their 7th grade year. Students will continue with their current chosen language and design. All 7th graders take theatre arts. There will be a guidance lesson in classes reviewing options, and you can review the 7th Grade Course Choice Sheet. Reach out to Ms. Zook with any questions.
Class of 2031 (current 7th graders)
Our rising 8th graders have a scripted schedule for their 8th grade year. Students will continue with their current chosen language and design. All 8th graders take visual arts. There will be a guidance lesson in classes reviewing options, and you can review the 8th Grade Course Choice Sheet. Reach out to Mr. Reyna with any questions.
Class of 2030 (current 8th graders)
Rising 9th graders will create 4-year plans that act as a baseline for their high school years. These are not fixed in stone, but serve as a guide. Students will need to make decisions about electives, and eventually maths and sciences. Make plans to attend the 9th Grade Information Night on January 15 to learn more. You will have the opportunity to schedule an individual conference with Mr. Reyna to discuss selections (a sign up link will be available soon). You can review the 9th Grade choice sheet and four year plans. Videos explaining the choice sheet and plans will come soon.
Class of 2029 (Current 9th Graders)
Mr. Manuszak will visit with rising 10th graders on Tuesday, January 28 (A Day) and Wednesday, January 28 (B Day) in their World Geography class to fill out their 10th Grade course selection form. The choices students make on these forms are not final; students and parents will have an opportunity to sign up for an individual conference with Mr. Manuszak in February to discuss their selections (meeting link coming in January).
Class of 2028 (Current 10th Graders)
Mr. Ryder will present to rising 11th graders on Friday, January 23 (A Day) and Monday, January 26 (B Day) about the IB Diploma Program in their World History class. After the presentation, students will complete their 11th grade course selection form. The choices students make on these forms are not final; students and parents will have an opportunity to sign up for an individual conference with Mr. Manuszak in February to discuss their selections (meeting link coming in January).
Class of 2027 (Current 11th Graders)
Mr. Manuszak will visit with rising 12th graders in their US History class on Monday, January 26 (B) and Thursday, January 29 (A) to guide them in the completion of their 12th grade course selection form. Reach out to Mr. Manuszak with any questions.
