Construction Update

The Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close I-35 at FM 3406 in alternating directions beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights, Mar. 9 and 10, weather permitting. During this time, crews and cranes will lift and place large beams for the new FM 3406 bridge. 

 

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 9, the north and southbound I-35 frontage roads will be reduced to one lane at FM 3406, and FM 3406 will fully close at I-35. At 10 p.m., northbound I-35 will fully close to traffic, and southbound I-35 will be reduced to one lane between RM 1431 and Hesters Crossing. Drivers on northbound I-35 will detour to the frontage road at exit 254 (FM 3406). Drivers will be able to re-enter I-35 at the next entrance ramp. All roadways will reopen on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 8 a.m.

 

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 10, the north and southbound I-35 frontage roads will be reduced to one lane at FM 3406, and FM 3406 will fully close at I-35. At 10 p.m., southbound I-35 will fully close to traffic, and the northbound I-35 left lane will close between RM 1431 and Hesters Crossing. Drivers on southbound I-35 will detour to the frontage road at exit 254 (FM 3406). Drivers will be able to re-enter I-35 at the next entrance ramp. All roadways will reopen on Sunday, Mar. 11 at 8 a.m. (Please see attached illustration for more information.)

 

Drivers wishing to cross at FM 3406 should use US 79 or RM 1431.

 

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure, and motorists should allow extra time to travel through this area. TxDOT asks that drivers be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.

 

The I-35 at FM 3406 project will improve mobility, safety and connectivity for all modes of transportation along and across I-35. The project includes:

  • Reconstructing the FM 3406 bridge over I-35, including building new U-turn bridges
  • Improving the north and southbound I-35 frontage roads at FM 3406
  • Adding new and upgraded bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
