FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Wednesday, Primary Families!

As we head into Thanksgiving Break, I want to take a moment to say just how grateful I am for our amazing school community. Every day, I’m reminded of how special this place is because of the warmth, support, and partnership our families bring to our campus.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us for our Fall Showcases. It is always such a joy to see our students’ hard work come to life and to watch them shine. Having you there to celebrate their learning alongside us truly means so much.

When we return from the break, our Book Fair will officially open! See below for information about shopping days and how to set up your student's e-wallet.

As we continue our Season of Gratitude, I’d love for you to help us honor our incredible staff by filling out the form linked below if you haven’t had the opportunity to do so. Your kind words truly matter and go a long way in reminding our team how valued they are.

I hope your family enjoys a relaxing and rejuvenating break next week. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed, recharged, and ready to wrap up the semester on Monday, December 1!

Enjoy the break!

IB Initiative: The Concept of Change

This week, we are exploring the concept of change. We can see change in many aspects of life. This week, however, we are focusing on how we can see change connected to the concepts we’ve already explored: form, function, and causation.

Changes in Form

Form changes in observable ways. The properties of an object can change on their own or through human efforts. Specifically, change in form often happens in cycles (like seasons or the moon) or over time (like changes in technology).

Changes in Function

Change can happen in both purpose and behavior. When we use something for a purpose other than its original purpose, we are repurposing or changing its purpose. This is seen in the sustainable movement of upcycling - taking what would be trash and turning it into something usable or beautiful. Behavior can change as well and when it does, there is often a reason behind the change, for example, when your child is “hangry.”

Changes in Causation

The reasons why we do something can change as well. We might eat because we are hungry or because we are celebrating or sad. We might choose to read for a variety of reasons - sometimes to gain information and sometimes for fun

We explore change in many of our units of inquiry, as there are many other concepts aligned to change such as growth, cycles, and adaptation.

Second and Third Grades welcome special guests

Third graders enjoyed a special visit from State Representative John Bucy last week as part of their unit on government. They follow up this week with a visit from the City of Round Rock to learn about services local governments provide the community.

Second graders also enjoyed an in-person presentation Tuesday, learning more about cowboy life from Jeremy with the Williamson Museum and seeing artifacts like spurs and branding irons that helped them continue to learn more about what life was like in the past.

Fourth Grade Visits Pioneer Farms

Fourth Graders got a taste of what it was like to live in Texas in the 1800s, from carding and spinning thread to communications tools and blacksmithing.

A farm volunteer demonstrates spinning, longhorn cows lay down in the dappled sunlight, and a student tries out a large triangle, which would have been used to catch the attention of people outside.

Upcoming Enrichment Activities

November 20: Fall Fashion Show

Students are encouraged to dress up and participate in our Fall Fashion Show! We ask that students do not bring masks, or props such as swords, canes, etc.  Students are welcome to bring a change of clothes, a costume, or any cultural clothing that they would like to wear. Students will change into the clothes in Triple A, and cannot wear them during the school day.

November 21: Movie Day or Fall Crafts

Students will have the option to watch a movie (Meet the Robinsons), or participate in a variety of Fall Crafts to kick off Thanksgiving Break!

With the weather getting colder, we’re seeing many jackets ending up in Lost and Found or left outside. Please remind your student to double-check that they have their jacket when coming indoors or heading home.

Transportation Change Reminder: If your student will be absent from school or has a change in transportation, email the Triple A Administrative Assistant, the A la Carte Instructor, and your student's school day teacher. Be sure to send the email at least two hours prior to school dismissal. Also, remember to update your student's pick up mode in PikMyKid.

Enrichment Schedule:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday - 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday - 2:10 p.m. and 3:55 p.m.
  • Early Release Wednesday Only - 2:55 p.m.
