Week of August 13, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Brooke Knight, PYP Principal

Hello Meridian Primary Families,

Our students have returned with excitement and energy, and we’ve already seen great progress in setting expectations, writing our Essential Agreements, and establishing strong routines. We are off to a positive and productive start.

A special thank you to everyone for helping make our carline run more smoothly each day. Your cooperation and patience are making a big difference. Please take another moment to review the carline maps, and help us set the example of how to be principled by following carline expectations. This keeps our process safe, efficient, and stress-free for everyone. Tardies will start next Monday. School begins at 7:55 a.m. and students will be counted tardy by 8:05 a.m. Repeated tardies can affect attendance so we encourage families to get here early because traffic can be unpredictable some days.

We encourage you to stay connected to your child’s learning through Toddle, where you can follow along with the exciting things happening in the classroom. Also, be sure to read the weekly grade-level newsletters to know what’s coming up for your child and how you can support at home. A simple but powerful way to engage is by talking with your child about their day—ask about what they enjoyed, what challenged them, and how what they learned connects to the world around them. These conversations help strengthen their understanding, build confidence, and show them that their learning matters beyond the classroom.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if we can support in any way. Have a great week!

Donation request: Nurse’s Office

Khaki, black, and jean pants

Our nurse’s clinic  provides clothing changes for students when needed during the school day. At the moment, we are especially in need of boys’ size 10 pants.

If you happen to have gently used clothing your child has outgrown  in this size, we would be so grateful for your donation.

Meet The Counselors

School counselors work with the  staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, and evaluate a developmental guidance and counseling program that includes the following four components:

  • Guidance curriculum to help students develop their full educational potential
  • Responsive services component to intervene on behalf of any student with immediate personal concerns
  • Individual planning system to guide a student as the student plans for the student’s own development
  • System support to support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and other members of the community

PYP counselors would like to hear more about student and family needs!  Please complete the PYP Counseling Program Needs Assessment.

IB Initiative: Welcome

IB logoEach week on the primary announcements and in the PYP Pride Newsletter, we share information about an element of IB or PYP.

IB stands for International Baccalaureate.  “International” is integral to IB - the organization works with schools all around the world. In fact, there are programs offered in 5,700 schools in 160 countries! The word “Baccalaureate” pertains to education, particularly one that promotes learning beyond high school. So, the IB offers educational programs around the world that build students into adults who might pursue education beyond high school.

The PYP stands for Primary Years Program and is for students ages 3-12, or for us at Meridian, Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our students are learning this week about these programs and the mission of the IB organization. Learn more about IB at Meridian or plan to join us at our first PYP Principal’s Coffee on Thursday, August 28 for an introduction to the Primary Years Program.

Coffee! You can almost smell the delicious aroma. The PYP Principal’s Coffee for new families will take place in the primary café on Thursday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m. This is a time to meet the school leadership (principal, assistant principals, IB coordinator) and learn about Primary Years Programme (PYP). This first coffee repeats the information shared during last year’s first coffee. RSVP to join us.

Safety Drills

SRP actionsMeridian follows the Standard Response Protocol and completes SRP safety drills each semester.

On Tuesday, we held our first Fire Evacuation drill. Later this week, we will call a “Hold” drill, in which students are asked to keep hallways clear and remain in class. Examples of situations calling for a Hold include a medical emergency, altercation, or a large spill in the hallway. There is minimal disruption to students unless called during a passing period, in which case they will remain in their classroom until the Hold is over.

Next week, Meridian will practice a “Secure” drill, where classes proceed as usual with no one entering or exiting the building, keeping students securely inside. Examples of situations calling for Secure include a stray animal outside that appears aggressive or a circumstance requiring law enforcement presence nearby.

Safety Communications

In the event of an emergency, parents/guardians will hear from the school through multiple channels: CatapultConnect texts through “23167,”  Pikmykid push notification, website pop-up, email, and/or social media posts. Please be patient with communication during an emergency; safety comes first and the situation quickly evolves.

Hands in heartMeridian has many school-hosted events and other opportunities where we welcome partnerships with our local community. Whether you work for a company, own a business, or are a member of an organization, we’d love to know about it and see how we can connect as a school!

PYP Carline Reminders

Thank you so much for your efforts to learn carline and leaving enough time to get primary students to campus and inside their classrooms before 7:55 a.m. Morning carline will grow faster as the week progresses, making this easier.

Here are two notes where we’ve seen confusion:

  • Exiting from the yellow/blue lanes –
    • In the morning, the right lane becomes a right turn only onto Meridian Lane.* If you need to switch lanes to exit right or left, turn on your blinker and merge into the proper lane. Be courteous of drivers around you and let them over.
    • In the afternoon for PYP, you must turn left, so both lanes merge into the left lane.
  • Paloma – Thank you for taking Paloma during carline! This is a direct request from Round Rock PD to help with traffic flow and safety.
  • It’s illegal to turn right into Meridian Lane from any lane other than the dedicated turn lane.
