Week of November 5, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Brooke Knight, PYP Principal

Happy Wednesday, Primary Families!

As we move through this busy fall season, I want to thank everyone for continuing to be principled, especially in our carline. Please remember to follow the expectations outlined on our carline maps. When everyone does their part, our line moves smoothly, and most importantly, we keep our staff, students, and families safe. This is also a great opportunity for us to model principled behavior for our students, showing them what it looks like to act with respect, responsibility, and care for others.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll host our second Principal Coffee of the year, and I’m so excited for you to hear from some of our wonderful teachers as they share about our new phonics program. I also want to give a huge shout-out to our third graders for their amazing showcase last Friday! It was such a joy to see them presenting their maps and sharing their learning so proudly. We can’t wait to welcome families to the upcoming grade level showcases over the next few weeks. Check your child’s weekly grade level newsletter and follow along on Toddle to stay connected to all the exciting learning and events happening around campus.

As we enter this season of gratitude, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on those who make a difference in our children’s lives every day, our incredible teachers and staff. Their dedication, care, and hard work create the nurturing environment where our students truly thrive.

We invite you to take a moment to share a few words of appreciation for a teacher or staff member who has made an impact on your child or family. Simply fill out this form to recognize their commitment and support. Your kind words mean so much and help spread joy and gratitude throughout our school community.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating the amazing work of our team this season! Enjoy the rest of your week!

Sincerely,

Brooke Knight

PYP Principal

Proposed 2026-2027 Academic Calendar

Next week, our board will vote on the 2026-2027 school calendar

  • The first day of school, August 12, will continue to be an early release Wednesday.
  • While we have typically held a Faculty & Staff Work Day over Easter Weekend, due to Spring Break and Easter Weekend being so close to each other, the Work Day has been moved to April 19.
  • As in the past, the calendar allows for two bad weather make-up days without canceling any holidays. Winter and Spring breaks are aligned with RRISD’s approved calendar.
  • The first semester is shorter than it has been the past few years due to Memorial Day falling later in May.

IB Initiative: The Concept of Function

Each week on the primary announcements and in the PYP Pride Newsletter, we share information about an element of the IB or specifically the Primary Years Programme.

The concept of Function explores the question, “How does it work?” It begins with identifying the purpose or role of something and then identifying the patterns of behavior that make it work. Systems in our world also have patterns which we usually call processes. These processes are how the system works.

Science exploration is a great place to explore function. Looking at how nature works all on its own or how man-made inventions work can help us better understand the world in which we live.

Also, each family establishes their own procedures for doing things at home. As a connection this week, you can talk with your child about how things work at your home. What systems are in place to ensure everyone is included, safe, and valued at your home?
