Dear Parents,

For those of you who have been at Meridian for awhile, you'll remember that we used to have a Wellness Day each spring. This gave students a fun-filled day similar to that of a traditional school's field day. With the growth of our school and changes in staff, Meridian did not have a Wellness Day last year, but immediately began looking into an alternative.

We're pleased to share that on Wednesday, February 13, we'll have our first ever Meridian Fun Run! The nice folks at Boosterthon will come in, set up a track, and facilitate a morning of fun for the primary grades. The program will officially kick off the week before with a pep rally on Monday, February 4 and will continue with daily video clips where students will solve a S.T.E.A.M.-themed mystery in time for the run. Parents can set up a pledge page and share with others the opportunity to support their student by pledging per lap run or a flat amount. The pledging will all take place online and their will be no competition among students.

After setting the goal at $20,000 and surveying the teachers for their suggestions, it was decided to put the funds toward playground and outdoor learning improvements.

Reaching our goal will allow us to have:
  • game/activity boards painted on the blacktop to promote play and exercise
  • boulders along the frontage road to increase playground safety
  • seating and equipment to encourage use of the outdoor classroom
  • the start of landscaping to beautify the playground and mitigate rock erosion

FAQ's

Does my child need pledges to be part of the Fun Run?
Not at all! Every student will participate regardless of their pledge status.

I didn't purchase a Fun Run t-shirt. Does my child need to wear her uniform on 2/13?
Students may wear any approved spirit wear shirt instead.

Will volunteers be needed to help that day?
Yes! But the spots are limited due to parking. An invite will first be sent to parents who have "done their 20." If more are still needed after that, we'll send a link out in an email.

What happens if the weather is bad?
The fun will go on! The Boosterthon team will be prepared to move the run indoors at a moment's notice.

Will there be individual prizes given to students who receive pledges?
No, we decided against prizes so as not to encourage competition between students, but we will have some whole-school incentives that will be really fun for the kids!

Is this the same as making a gift to the Annual Fund?
These are actually two separate fundraisers. The Annual Fund is our yearly campaign, geared toward parents, to help bridge the gap of what Meridian receives per student compared to that of a traditional public school. The Fun Run supports primary grades specifically and is meant to be shared with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends.

Are middle and high school students participating?
Being a new program for Meridian, we decided to start with just primary grades this year. In the future, we will look at expanding it to include middle school and high school.

More information will be shared as we receive it from the Boosterthon team.
