Review details on the Standard Response Protocol from the Texas School Safety Center.
SRP Drills
"Fire Evacuation" – All occupants exit the building to designated safe locations.
“Shelter for Severe Weather” – Students, staff, and visitors will move to designated shelter locations. A Shelter would be called during severe weather warnings like a tornado.
“Lockdown” – Classrooms practice “locks, lights (turned off), out of sight.” A lockdown would be called to secure interior portions of the school in the event of an imminent threat of violence.
“Hold” – Students are asked to keep hallways clear and remain in class. Examples of situations calling for a Hold include a medical emergency, altercation, or a large spill in the hallway. There is minimal disruption to students unless called during a passing period, in which case they will remain in their classroom until the Hold is over.
“Secure” – Classes proceed as usual with no one entering or exiting the building, keeping students securely inside. Examples of situations calling for Secure include a stray animal outside that appears aggressive or a circumstance requiring law enforcement presence nearby.
Safety Communications
In the event of an emergency, parents/guardians will hear from the school through multiple channels, including the following:
- CatapultConnect texts through “23167”
- Pikmykid push notification
- Website pop-up
- Facebook/Instagram
Please be patient with communication during an emergency; safety comes first and the situation will be quickly evolving.
