Dena Akers

Dena Akers joined Meridian in August 2014 as a kindergarten teacher. Dena is originally from San Antonio, and she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s in Business Administration/Marketing at Texas A&M before deciding to finish her education certification and become a teacher. She is certified in early childhood through 4th grade, K-12 special education, and English as a Second Language.
 
Dena joined Meridian from Fort Bend ISD on the southwest side of Houston. She has taught early childhood grade levels, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade, and she wishes to continue with an early childhood focus. She has completed Category 1 and advanced IB-PYP training.
 
Dena believes that it is critical that a teacher give each student opportunities for individual and group learning, letting them explore to promote independence, giving self-help skills, problem-solving opportunities and instilling a love of learning.
