About Spring 2026 Competitive Tennis

  • Meridian plans to form the following teams this season: Coed Varsity and Coed Middle School.
  • Tryouts are Wednesday, December 3, and participation in tryouts is required to be considered for a team. (See Tryouts.)
  • Meridian Tennis participates in the Texas State Tennis Tournament for the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletics League (TCSAAL). All competitive Tennis players have the opportunity to compete in the Texas State Tennis Tournament if they meet the prerequisites:
    • Must be fully eligible and remain fully eligible for the entire season. See Eligibility.
    • Must attend all practices and all available matches and demonstrate a consistent positive attitude while performing at their best to be considered for the State team.
    • Must meet Student Commitment Expectations for the entire season. (Participate in all practices and competitions and always give 100% effort.)
  • Practices begin Wednesday, January 7. There will be no practices during Winter Break.
    • The Middle School team will practice up to twice a week (3 hours total).
    • The Varsity teams will practice up to twice a week (3.5 hours total).
  • Matches:
    • The Middle School team will have the opportunity to participate in up to three matches before the State Tennis Tournament.
    • The Varsity teams will have the opportunity to participate in up to four matches before the State Tennis Tournament.
    • The number of matches available is limited due to the size of our school and the end of our season, which is marked by the TCSAAL State Tournament.
  • Participation fees guarantee practice opportunities. Playing time must be earned based on skills demonstrated, practice effort and attendance, Tennis IQ, and sportsmanship. Playing time is determined by the coach.
  • Parents/guardians will need to volunteer to support their student athlete’s team. A team photographer is needed. Also, a team parent to coordinate team socials and the Meridian tent at the State Tournament would be helpful.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for providing or coordinating transportation.
  • All teams will use TeamApp to stay current on all their team’s happenings. TeamApp can also be used to coordinate transportation and team social gatherings. (Instructions for joining this season’s TeamApp will be sent in your Welcome email the school day after teams are formed.)
  • Participants:
    • 7th-12th grade students. (MS = 7th & 8th grades. Varsity = 9th-12th grades. 8th grade students could be asked to play up to the Varsity team.)
    • The Coed Middle School team will consist of up to eight 7th & 8th grade qualified tennis players.
    • The Coed Varsity team will consist of 12-16 qualified 9th-12th grade tennis players. Exceptional 8th grade tennis player could be asked to “play up” and be offered a spot on the Varsity team..
  • Equipment & Uniforms: Students will need to provide their own tennis racket and wear athletic clothes and shoes to practices. Black tennis bottoms required for competitions. (A Meridian Tennis jersey will be loaned for the season. Each participant will receive a Meridian Athletics spirit wear shirt, which they can keep and can be worn as a practice shirt and to school as spirit wear on Fridays.)
