Important! Basketball overlaps with Volleyball for a month (October 12 - November 14)! This means that the Basketball practice schedule will change weekly during the overlap as Volleyball maintains its practice schedule headed towards and during playoffs. Weekly Basketball practice schedules during the overlap will be available the Thursday before the upcoming week.

Before registering and committing to Competitive Basketball, please make sure you have the flexibility to adjust your schedule weekly between October 12 and November 14. Students participating in competitive sports are expected to participate in every practice and be available to participate in every competition.

Students who are also participating on a Meridian Competitive Volleyball, Flag Football, or Cross Country team will continue to prioritize those Fall Competitive sports through the end of those seasons. They are expected to communicate privately with their Basketball coach when there is a direct conflict with their Fall Competitive sport. They are required to participate in all Basketball practices and be available to participate in every Basketball competitions that do not directly conflict with their Fall Competitive sports practices and competitions.

Students who are participating in other extracurricular activities are expected to commit fully to their Competitive Basketball team if they accept a spot on the team. Regardless of their other activities, they are required to participate in every Basketball practice and be available for every competition. This means that students participating in more than one activity will likely have to choose between activities. Learn more: Student Commitment Expectations for Competitive Sports.

About 2026-2027 Meridian Basketball

  • Tryouts are Sunday, September 27 from 1 - 5:30 p.m. Participation in tryouts is required to be considered for a team.
  • New this year! Meridian Basketball will participate in the Honor Charter Athletic League (HCAL). Additionally, Meridian Basketball teams will play in some non-league competitions, which could include a tournament.  HCAL’s philosophy emphasizes growth and development at the middle school level. Because of this, Middle School teams will have the opportunity to advance to Regionals, but not State Championships. Advancement to State competition will be reserved for Varsity teams, similar to the varsity lettering model. With HCAL,  these will be the primary competition days.
    • High School Game Days = Tuesdays & Friday
    • Middle School Game Days =  Primarily Thursdays, with some Mondays
    • Non-league games can be any other weekday evening or Saturday.
  • Official practices begin immediately after Fall Break. Games will begin 2-3 weeks after practices. See Practices.
  • Participation fees guarantee practice opportunities. Playing time must be earned based on skills demonstrated, practice effort and attendance, Basketball IQ, and sportsmanship. Playing time is determined by the coach.
  • Parents/guardians will need to volunteer to support their student athlete’s team.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for providing or coordinating transportation.
  • New this season! All teams will use ParentSquare to stay current on all their team’s happenings. (TeamApp will not be used this season. )Instructions for joining your team’s ParentSquare Group will be sent in the Welcome Email after teams are formed as a result of tryouts.
