About 2023-2024 Meridian Basketball
- Meridian plans to form the following teams this season: Girls Varsity, Boys Varsity, Boys JV Beast (A), Boys JV Bold (B), Boys MS Beast (A), Boys MS Bold (B), and Girls MS.
- Tryouts are Saturday, 9/30 and participation is required to be considered for a team.
- Meridian Basketball participates in the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletics League (TCSAAL). Additionally, Meridian Basketball teams will play in some non-league competitions, which could include a tournament.
- Official practices begin immediately after Fall Break. Games will begin 2-3 weeks after practices.
- Participation fees guarantee practice opportunities. Playing time must be earned based on skills demonstrated, practice effort and attendance, Basketball IQ, and sportsmanship. Playing time is determined by the coach.
- Parents/guardians will need to volunteer to support their student athlete’s team.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for providing or coordinating transportation.
- All teams will use TeamApp to stay current on all their team’s happenings. TeamApp can also be used to coordinate transportation and team social gatherings. Upon making a team, the basketball player and their parents/guardians will need to join the MWS Basketball TeamApp and this season's Access Group. Instructions for joining TeamApp and this season's Access Group will be sent in the Welcome Email after teams are formed as a result of tryouts.
Notable successes of the 2022-2023 Basketball season:
- Boys MS Beast is 2023 Sub-Regional Champion and Regional Runner-Up!
- Girls Varsity is Sub-Regional Runners-Up!
- Boys MS Bold is Division Champion!

10/5 - Invoices due. (Welcome emails will include instructions for paying by check if preferred.)
10/16 - Practices start this week
10/16-11/18 - Overlap with Volleyball. Volleyball teams will keep their normal practice schedule, which means Basketball will have different schedules weekly during this time and will be practicing in the Primary Building Gym as needed.
11/06 - League (TCSAAL) games could start this week for Varsity teams
11/17 - Games possible this day. (Friday before Thanksgiving Break.)
11/26 - Halfway point
11/28 - League (TCSAAL) games start this week for Sub-Varsity teams
12/1 - Balance of payment plan due for participation fees.
12/9 - Tournament (all teams) - 10th Annual Charter/Home School Tournament in Westlake
12/14 - Games this day. (Thursday before Winter Break)

Anticipated Teams
Teams offered will be determined based on registration and tryouts. The following teams are anticipated:
Boys Varsity
Coach: James Mosqueda. See Coaches.
Grade Levels: For 9th-12th grade students. 8th grade students could be asked to play up depending on registration, tryouts and positions needed on Varsity.
Practices: See Practice Schedule
Competition: Will participate in the Boys Varsity division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 10 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the State Tournament. Could participate in up to eight non-league games in addition to league games, with the possibility of participating in a tournament.
Lettering: Possible for student athletes who participate on the Varsity team and participate in at least a portion of half of all the team's regular season, Varsity-level, interscholastic games. All other lettering requirements must also be met.
Fees: $52.03 Registration Fee ($50 registration + 4.6% MySchoolBucks fees) + $450 Participation Fee*

Girls Varsity

Registration
Registration is NOW CLOSED. It ended at 9 PM on Wednesday, 9/20. No Late Registrations will be accepted!
IMPORTANT!
It is your responsibility to make sure you are successfully registered before registration closes.
Successful registrations will yield a MySchoolBucks receipt. Additionally, the Sports Registration Status Sheet is updated daily, and several times a day on the last day of registration. Everyone has access to the Sports Registration Status Sheet, including students, parents/guardians and coaches.
Student athletes and parents/guardians should check the Sports Registration Status Sheet BEFORE 5 PM on the day registration closes to ensure their registration was successful. If you do not see your name on the registration status, and you registered before it was last timestamped, please email [email protected] If you have questions or concerns about your registration status, or if you believe you registered but you do not see your student's name on the Sports Registration Status Sheet, please email [email protected] BEFORE 5:00 PM on Wednesday, 9/20.

Physical Eligibility
All students must be physically eligible to participate in tryouts, practices and competitions. Learn more here. For students who do not yet have a physical form on file that is valid through the entire Basketball season (through 2/17), physical forms are due by 9/20/23.
Game Schedule
The Game Schedule will be available towards the end of October or early November. Teams usually have two games a week. Games are often Monday-Friday evenings and Saturdays. The Regional and State Championships usually include Saturdays and will likely require some travel. Please note that all games are subject to change.
Lettering & Letter Jackets
Lettering in an extracurricular activity is reserved for the highest level of participation. For Basketball, this means Varsity Basketball players. Visit Letter Jackets & Lettering for more information, including the 2023-2024 Lettering Requirements.
