11/7 - Basketball players and parents/guardians must watch the recording of the Kick-Off Meeting BEFORE their first practice.

11/7 - Complete and submit COVID-19 Testing Consent or Masks Required While Playing Google Form.

11/8 - Practices start this week

11/8-11/14 - Overlap with Volleyball. Volleyball teams advancing to State will keep their normal practice schedule, which changes the Basketball practice schedule for this week.

11/29 - League (TCSAAL) games start (tentative)

12/10 - Halfway point

1/14 - Homecoming Games

1/31-2/5 - Regionals (tentative)

2/11-2/12 - State (tentative)

  

Anticipated Teams

Teams offered will be determined based on registration, tryouts and the situation with COVID-19. The following teams are anticipated:

 

Boys Varsity
  • Coaches: Peter Dutton, Coach and Boys Basketball Program Lead; James Mosqueda, Assistant Coach
  • Grade Levels: For 9th-12th grade students. 8th grade students could be asked to play up depending on registration, tryouts and positions needed on Varsity.
  • Practices: See Practice Schedule.
  • Competition: Will participate in the Boys Varsity division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 10 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the State Tournament. Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
  • Lettering - Possible for student athletes who participate on the Varsity team and participate in at least a portion of half of all the team's regular season, Varsity-level, interscholastic games. All other lettering requirements must also be met.
  • Fees: $35 Registration Fee + $390 Participation Fee
 
Girls Varsity
  • Coach: Ayla Eden, Coach and Girls Basketball Program Lead
  • Grade Levels: For 9th-12th grade students. 8th grade students could be asked to play up depending on registration, tryouts and positions needed on Varsity.
  • Practices: See Practice Schedule..
  • Competition: Will participate in the Girls Varsity division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 10 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the State Tournament. Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
  • Lettering - Possible for student athletes who participate on the Varsity team and participate in at least a portion of half of all the team's regular season, Varsity-level, interscholastic games.All other lettering requirements must also be met.

Boys JV
  • Coaches: Myles Wright, Coach; Bria Freeland, Assistant Coach
  • Grade Levels: For 9th-12th grade students.
  • Practices: See Practice Schedule.
  • Competition: Will participate in the Boys JV division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 8 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the Regional Tournament. (JV is ineligible to advance to State.) Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
  • Fees: $35 Registration Fee + $340 Participation Fee
 
Boys MS
  • Coaches:
  • Grade Levels: For 7th-8th grade students.
  • Practices: See Practice Schedule.
  • Competition: 
    • MS Beast will participate in the Premiere division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 8 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the State Tournament. Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
    • MS Bold will either participate in the Premiere division or the Secondary division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 8 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs. If MS Bold is in the Secondary division, the team can advance as far as the Regional Championship. If MS Bold is in the Premiere division and both MS Beast and MS Bold advance to playoffs, only one of our teams will be able to advance past the Sub-Regional Championship as both teams are expected to participate in the same division of the same sub-region.) Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
  • Fees: $35 Registration Fee + $290 Participation Fee
 
Girls MS
  • Coach: Payton Castaneda, Coach; David Vargas. Assistant Coach
  • Grade Levels: For 7th-8th grade students.
  • Practices: See Practice Schedule.
  • Competition: Will participate in the Premiere division of the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL), which includes up to 8 regular season games with the opportunity to advance to playoffs, including the State Tournament. Could participate in up to two non-league games in addition to league games.
  • Fees: $35 Registration Fee + $290 Participation Fee

Open from 10/6 through 10 PM on 10/21. No Late Registrations accepted!

IMPORTANT! Student athletes and parents/guardians should check the Sports Registration Status BEFORE registration closes to ensure their registration was successful. If you do not see your name on the registration status, and you registered before it was last timestamped, please email Meridian-athletics@mwschool.org to check on your registration status BEFORE registration closes.

Game Schedule

The Game Schedule will be available by the second week of November. Teams usually have two games a week. Games are often Monday-Friday evenings with the occasional Saturday game. The Regional and State Championships usually include Saturdays. Please note that all games are subject to change.
