Russell Baker

After graduating from Round Rock High School and Texas Christian University, Mr. Baker taught Social Studies in his home district of RRISD. During his summers he would volunteer his time at Grand Canyon National Park. After five years in the classroom, he chose to change careers to become a Park Ranger where he would spend close to fifteen years in the National Park Service. In addition to giving public programs and working with environmental education, Mr. Baker spent much of his time as a work leader on the Trail Crew, building and maintaining the backcountry trails of the park. For a time, he managed the NPS mule team in addition to the solar composting toilets spread throughout the one million acres of canyon backcountry. After being informed by his wife that twins were on the way, Mr. Baker’s family made the decision to return to Texas, family and a hospital within driving distance. Enthusiastically, Mr. Baker dove back into teaching, this time in English where he taught in the IB programme at Stony Point High School. In 2021, Mr. Baker began at Meridian World School, excited to be a part of a full IB curriculum campus. Mr. Baker strives to bring his broad experience into each class, challenge students with new ideas and build life-long learners. In his spare time, Mr. Baker enjoys spending time with family and friends, camping, playing music, and travelling to remote wilderness locations.
