2nd Unit of Inquiry - Where We Are In Place & Time

The Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry will be explored through the lens of music.
 

About the Unit:

During this inquiry, students will explore the way technology has impacted music from instruments, music playback, and recording. Students will explore the way both instruments and how we listen to music have evolved over time. They will learn about an alternative type of notation that originated as Piano Roll and is now used in the Music Industry.

Students will compose using a virtual instrument and translate their music into the piano roll.

 

Lesson Outlines:

 

Lesson 1 Objective: To explore and analyze music technology.

Lesson 2 Objective: Comparing Beat Patterns Using Technology.

Lesson 3 & 4 Objective: To Create an 8 Beat Melody Using the Pentatonic Scale.

Lesson 5 Objective: Comparing Music Notation with Piano Roll and translating own composition to Piano Roll.

Lesson 6 Objective: Composition Performance.

Lesson 7 Objective: Create a Piano Roll using an online Sequencer.

Structures influence the ways communities function.

The Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry will be explored through the lens of music.
 

About the Unit:

Students will explore the music system of Treble Clef notes. They will develop their knowledge and understanding of the system used for Treble Clef notation on a staff. Students will become familiar with where notes go and the rhymes that assist in remembering them. They will create basic melodies to demonstrate their application of knowledge.

During this unit, students will also learn and identify two of the basic forms used in pieces of music. These forms are Binary (AB) and Ternary (ABA). Connections will be made to other structures and the function of musical forms.

 

Lesson Outlines:

 

Lesson 1 Objective: To introduce and understand the staff and treble clef.

Lesson 2 Objective: To introduce and understand the Treble Clef line notes and where they are placed on the staff.

Lesson 3 Objective: To introduce and understand the space treble clef notes. Check recognition of both.

Lesson 4 Objective: To analyze and understand Binary and Ternary forms in Music.

Lesson 5 Objective: To compose using the treble Clef lined or space notes.

Lesson 6 Objective: To create a Binary form piece by joining with another pair.

Lesson 7 Objective: To perform the Binary Form Composition and receive peer feedback.
