Tryouts / Practices / Fees

Overview

For the 2026-2027 season, Meridian Athletics hopes to form the Fierce Dance Team, which is open to rising 7th-12th grade students.

 

Fierce Dance Team competes in three area competitions at the JV level  and performs at Meridian's pep rallies and some home basketball games. 

 

We also plan to form an Officers group. Officers will perform with the JV team and  learn one additional Varsity-level number, which will be performed  at each competition. 

 

 A minimum number of qualified registrants is required for the Fierce Dance Team and the Officers to form. (Please see below for the minimums.) 

 

Important Dates

Monday, April 13 - Registration ($52.30) opens for 2026-2027 season.

Thursday, April 23  at 9 p.m. - Registration ($52.30) ends for the 2026-2027 season. There is no late registration.

Thursday, April 23 - Physical forms due for tryouts.

Friday, April 24 - Registration confirmation emails sent with a link to video of the compulsory dance routine to learn for tryouts.

Wednesday, April 29 - Dance Team Mandatory Pre-Tryout Clinic from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Mays Aux. (Practice compulsory routine). Must be physically eligible to participate. See Tryouts.

Thursday,  April 30 - Dance Team and Officer Tryouts. See Tryouts.

Thursday, April 30  by 8p.m. - Tryout results posted on Tryouts webpage by tryout number.

Friday,  May 1 by 6 p.m. - Participation fee invoices issued via MySchoolBucks and Welcome emails sent.

Friday, May 8. - Participation fee invoices are due, or the first payment is due if using a payment plan.

July 27 - 31 - Mandatory Summer Training. Please see Practices. (Must be financially eligible to participate.)

Friday, August 14 - Regular Practices start.

Competitions & Performances

The Fierce Dance Team will compete in three categories in three competitions at the JV level - Pom, Jazz, and Contemporary. The competition season is late January through March. As soon as the competitions are open for registration, they will be booked and the Dance Team’s competition schedule will be updated. We plan to participate in the Cedar Park, Leander, and Vista Ridge dance competitions. Each dancer will try out for and need to qualify for each eligible category for each of the competitions.

 

Officers will compete in the same three competitions with an additional Varsity-level number.

Open Monday, April 13 through Thursday, April 23  at 9 p.m.  Registration ($52.30) for the 2026-2027 season. There is no late registration available for students who were enrolled in Meridian during this registration window.

 

*Monday, May 18 through 9 p.m. on  Monday, July 20  – Registration ($52.30) for newly enrolled students (For students who enrolled in Meridian after April 23. Please request access from the school registrar)

Minimum registration

  1. Minimum number of participants for the JV Dance Team = 18 registrants to ultimately form a JV dance team of at least 15 participants.
  2. Minimum number of participants for Officers = 4 registrants to ultimately form an Officers group of at least 3.

*Please note that if the minimum number of participants is not met through the regular registration window, this sport offering will be cancelled for the 2026-2027 school year. Those that registered will be refunded in that case. Otherwise, registration fees are processing fees, and they are not refunded. Dance Team can form without an officers group as long as there are 18 qualified registrants for the Dance Team.

 

Lettering & Letter Jackets

Lettering in an extracurricular activity is reserved for high school students who participate at the highest level. For Dance Team, that means Officers. The following were the Lettering requirements for Dance Team for 2025-2026. 

  1. Participation Level Requirement - Officers must participate in 75% of all Dance Team and Officer competitions and scheduled performances, including pep rallies and home games. (Lettering is only available to Officers.)
  1. Participation Amount & Quality Requirement - 
  1. Promptly attending all practices and exhibitions (unless excused in advance by the coach or by a Standing Conflict Waiver, which was approved by the Athletic Coordinator). To be nominated to letter, students cannot have any unexcused absences.
  2. Always demonstrating a positive attitude toward their sport, teammates, and opponents.
  3. Consistently showing that they are working their hardest and showing outstanding effort.
