Overview

For the fall 2026 Volleyball season, we formed a Girls Varsity, Girls JV, Girls Middle School Beast (A), Girls Middle School Bold (B), and Boys Varsity teams!

New this year!

As communicated since January 28, tryouts were in May! One of the advantages to teams being formed in May is that they can start training together over the summer! Please find each team’s Summer Training Schedule on Practices. 100% participation in Summer Training is expected from each team member.

Another advantage to teams being formed in May is that they can start training for regular practices as soon as school starts for the year!

Game Schedule

Update as of May 20, Meridian Athletics is moving to HCAL!

In addition to stronger and more consistent competition, several sports will benefit from slightly longer seasons, and teams will have more standardized game days across the league. Below are the designated game days for High School and Middle School sports. While occasional schedule exceptions may occur, these will be the primary competition days.

  • High School Game Days = Tuesdays & Friday
  • Middle School Game Days =  Primarily Thursdays, with some Mondays

Non-league games can be any other weekday evening or Saturday.

HCAL’s philosophy emphasizes growth and development at the middle school level. Because of this, Middle School teams will have the opportunity to advance to Regionals, but not State Championships. Advancement to State competition will be reserved for Varsity teams, similar to the varsity lettering model.

Varsity Volleyball will have up to 10 league games and up to four non-league games.  JV Volleyball will have up to 8 league games.

Varsity and JV Volleyball will be entered into up to three tournaments, including the Meridian Labor Day Classic and the Aggieland Tournament. Middle School teams will be entered into the Meridian Labor Day Classic Volleyball Tournament.

Advancement to league playoffs must be earned by each team. The season for each team ends when that team's competitions end.

The Volleyball Game Schedule will be available in August and is subject to change. Teams will have about two games a week. A third game in a week or a tournament that week will likely result in a cancelled practice.

Lettering & Letter Jackets

Lettering in an extracurricular activity is reserved for high school students who participate at the highest level, which for Volleyball means Varsity. The following were the Lettering requirements for Volleyball for 2025-2026.

  1. Participation Level Requirement - The student athlete must participate on the Varsity team in at least a portion of at least 75% of all the team's regular season, Varsity-level, interscholastic games. Does not include tournaments, Adults/Staff vs. Students games, or playoffs.

Student Managers: Must be a member of a Varsity or Varsity-level team and perform all duties well throughout the season as communicated by the coach. Participation Amount requirements also apply.

  1. Participation Amount & Quality Requirement
  1. Promptly attending all practices and exhibitions (unless excused in advance by the coach or by a Standing Conflict Waiver, which was approved by the Athletic Coordinator). To be nominated to letter, students cannot have any unexcused absences.
  2. Always demonstrating a positive attitude toward their sport, teammates, and opponents.
  3. Consistently showing that they are working their hardest and showing outstanding effort.

The lettering requirements for 2026-2027 will be similar and they will be published in September.  Visit Letter Jackets & Lettering for more information.
