About Model UN

Model United Nations is a very popular extracurricular activity at Meridian! It is open to 6th-12th grade students who are able to prioritize this competitive club. In 2025-2026, Model UN  had more than 180 members! It was a very successful season with 42 awards earned! 

 

Model UN gives students the opportunity to work on their research, public speaking, and diplomacy skills. Middle school and high school members can participate in conferences in the central Texas area.

 

Annual Membership Registration

There are no tryouts or auditions for Model United Nations. All 6th-12th grade students can register to participate. 

 

The Annual Membership Registration ($104.60) for 2026-2027 Model United Nations opens on Wednesday, September 2 and closes at 9 PM. on Thursday, September 10. No late registrations will be accepted.

 

Important! Annual membership registration is required for all new and returning members, including 2026-2027 Officers.

 

Interest and Information Meeting

Student Commitment Expectation

Students who do not participate at the same level and frequency in their competitive extracurricular activity negatively impact the group’s performance, morale, and culture.

  • For competitive extracurricular activities such as Model United Nations, all members are expected to attend all weekly meetings.
  • For competitive extracurricular activities, such as Model United Nations, students who know they have a regular conflict are encouraged to choose between conflicting activities before registering.

 

Weekly Meeting/Practice Information

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the weekly meeting days are:

  • Middle School will meet on Tuesdays from 4:10 PM. - 5:15 PM. 
    • The first Middle School meeting is September 22.
  • High School will meet on Fridays from 4:10 PM - 5:15 PM.  
    • The first High School meeting is September 25.

 

Important Dates

Tuesday, September 1 - Registration opens.

September 8 - Interest Meeting 

Thursday, September 10 - Registration ends at 9 p.m. No late registration available.

Tuesday, September 22 - First Middle School meeting.  Must be registered to participate.

Friday, September 25 - First High School meeting. Must be registered to participate.

November - First conference (CTMUN, for 8-12th grade Model UN members who commit to this conference)

Friday, March 12, 2027 - Last meeting/practice/rehearsal of the school year

 

Conference  Schedule

Each optional and additional conference remains subject to change until the Commitment Forms are sent out. In the meantime, the information on the Conference Schedule will help families plan for participation in Model United Nations.

 

Eligibility

  • Students must be academically eligible to participate in conferences. 
  • Students must be financially eligible to participate in practices/meetings, conferences, and club socials.
  • Students must maintain their Character in Good Standing eligibility, which requires that students adhere to the Meridian Student & Parent Handbook and the Model UN Terms for Participation.

 

Fees

This  experience has three types of fees

  1. Annual Membership Registration Fee 
  2. Conference Participation Fees 

 

The fees for 2026-2027 Model UN  are as follows:

 

  1. $104.60 Annual Membership Registration ($100 registration + 4.6% MySchoolBucks user fee). The registration fee is a processing fee and is only refundable if the minimum number of students do not register and this activity  is canceled.
    • Please note that Registration fees cannot be paid by check and must be paid via MySchoolBucks.
  1. + Optional Conference Participation Fees = Estimated $100-400 each for Austin and San Antonio area conferences. 
    1. These fees cover the expenses for the student to participate in these optional, additional conferences. This fee includes the conference entry fee. If the conference requires travel coordinated by the school, it will also include travel expenses and possibly lodging and meals and a portion of the chaperones’ travel expenses.
  • Once the student commits to the conference, Conference Participation Fees are due in full and are non-refundable and non-transferrable. The entire Conference Participation Fee is due in full even if a student becomes injured or ill, loses eligibility.  leaves or is removed from the activity, or withdraws from the school.
  • *Add 4.6% MySchoolBucks user fee if paying Conference Participation Fees via MySchoolBucks. Or participation fees can be paid by check. (The registration fee cannot be paid by check.)

Terms for Participation

Students and parents/guardians must thoroughly read and agree to the 2026-2027 Model United Nations Terms for Participation prior to completing and submitting the Registration Form and paying the registration fee. Please pay particular attention to the Student Commitment Expectations.

 

Registration

Now is now closed. Registration ended at 9 PM on Thursday, September 10. No late registration is available.

 

All students wanting to participate, including those who have previously participated in Meridian Model UN and this year’s Officers, must complete the Annual Membership Registration form and pay the Annual Membership Registration Fee each year of participation.

 

Supervised After School Care with "After School 6-12"

If you are unable to consistently pick up your student immediately after their after-school activity or activities, we encourage you to register them for After School 6–12. The cost is $100 per semester. Please note that After School 6–12 ends at 5:45 p.m., and late fees begin accruing at 5:46 p.m. Learn more about registering for After School 6-12.

Lettering

Lettering in an extracurricular activity is reserved for the highest level of participation. Lettering requirements will be similar to the 2025-2026 Lettering Requirements and will be published before Fall Break.
