- Bystander: anyone who’s aware that bullying is happening
- Online bullying: the use of technology to harass, threaten, or intimidate another person
- Physical bullying: hurting someone’s body or possessions
- Relational bullying: hurting someone’s reputation or relationships, such as by excluding them
- Upstander: someone who stands up for a person being bullied

Two Host Families Needed
We have two foreign exchange students, who, through no fault of their own, are in need of a new host family. Both are amazing kids, and both are loving their experience in Texas and at Meridian. They are here through the EF International cultural exchange program overseen by the US Department of State. The program originated to enhance cultural relationships between our country and countries abroad. It has been doing just that since the early 1960s, thanks to the generous nature of American families. Through this cultural exchange program, students are hosted by a family and attend a local high school, and they learn what life is really like here in our country. Everyone ends up with amazing memories and a family for life on the other side of the world.
The students come with their own health insurance, and an allowance from home to cover any school expenses, as well as their own personal needs such as cell phone, pizza out with friends, shopping sprees, etc. Host families promise to feed and nurture them and provide a reasonable amount of transportation to school and social activities.
Paula is a Junior at Meridian, and Mario is in tenth grade. Families do not need to have a teenager in the home, and quite often, it is families with younger children who really love having a teen around.
Action Requested: If you or someone you know would be interested in hosting one of these students please reach out to Stela Holcombe and she will connect you with the local EF coordinator, Bev Thomas.

Meridian Golf update and Golf Club info meeting
Meridian Golf Program Lead, Mr. Morales has discovered that golf competitions for high schools are primarily offered during the school day. Unfortunately this would interfere too often with academics.

Students and parents/guardians are invited to attend a Golf Club Info Meeting on Friday, October 18 from 1:50 to 2:20 p.m. (during advisory) in the Mays Lobby.

Welcome to the first issue of this year's MYP Mane!
Our MYP Mane 6-10 newsletter goes out Wednesdays in our Weekly Campus News email. This is a weekly newsletter for families to keep you informed about what is happening throughout the District and grades 6-10. You can find past issues on our website under Newsletter Archives. There is a separate newsletter for PYP (K-5), DP (11-12), and Athletics.
We are excited to welcome our students back this school year. We have spent the last few weeks ensuring everything is ready. We will have several events to help our students become familiar with our buildings and staff. Please read on for details.
We look forward to the first day of school on August 7. It’s an ‘A’ day and a regular early release Wednesday, so school lets out at 1:35 p.m.
Crystal Lane,
MYP Principal
Back to School Nights
Join us on campus to pick up your schedule, meet your student's teachers, pick up car tags, discover how you can support the school, pick up Letter Jackets, and purchase spirit wear from RockSports! You can also drop off medications and immunization records at the nurse’s table if needed. Consider signing up to volunteer to help us make Back to School Night run smoothly.
Middle School 6-8: Monday, August 5 from 4-6 p.m.
High School 9-12: Monday, August 5 from 5-7 p.m.
Items on the school supply lists that state “Bring and Leave in Front Office/Lobby” can be dropped off on Back to School Night. Please note: Schedules cannot be released if immunizations are not cleared with the nurse. As a Texas State requirement, students must receive vaccinations for Tdap and Meningococcal before beginning 7th grade.
Car tags: how to get yours!
